Estate Planning

We have extensive experience with the establishment of trusts and foundations as part of clients’ estate planning, as well as the ancillary corporate vehicles which may be necessary to achieve the intended result.  We are accustomed to advising on the issues that may arise from the administration and operation of such structures, and to ensuring that they keep pace with clients’ changing requirements.  We believe strongly in close contact with our clients’ trusted advisors to ensure that the structures are established not only in compliance with local norms and standards but also in line with those of other jurisdictions where assets may be situated.

Family Offices, Private Trust Companies & Succession Planning

We regularly assist with the establishment of family offices and private trust companies to facilitate long-term planning for clients.  We believe that succession planning is an integral tool for smooth inter-generational transfers of family authority, and are prepared to assist our clients with the creation of family charters and to assist in devising programs for the transfer of information and expertise.  We also work closely with the establishment of philanthropic ventures that align with family interests.

Wills & Probate

We regularly assist clients (both foreign and domestic) with the preparation of wills to handle their Bahamian situs assets. We advise clients as to the probate of wills as well as the administration of estates through the courts. As necessary, we provide services needed for the transfer of assets pursuant to such probate and estate administration.  Other services include assisting international clients with the processes and procedures required for the processing of non-Bahamian wills in respect of estates in The Bahamas, and also with the handling of a non-resident person’s intestate estate.
