It is with very heavy hearts that Glinton Sweeting O’Brien announces the death of one of its founding partners, Roy Sweeting.

Roy was a founding partner of GSO in 2005 and served as head of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group. He was admitted to the bar of England and Wales in 1997, following his successful completion of an LLB with first class honours from the University of Buckingham. He became a member of the Bar in The Bahamas that same year.

He was much sought after for his expertise in commercial litigation, with particular focus on insolvency and employment law; he successfully represented insurance companies, liquidators, receivers and secured and unsecured creditors.

When Hurricane Dorian struck the islands of the northern Bahamas, Roy leapt into action and made numerous trips to ensure that family, friends and others in the Abaco Islands were looked after.

Roy leaves behind his much beloved wife, Celeste, his daughters Lily and Chloe, his mother Dorothy and sister Valerie, whom he loved dearly.

He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know and work with him.

Details of a service will be announced at a later date.
